About Charles New Methodist
"Be Transformed to Transform" — Rooted in a rich history of faith and community, we are dedicated to growing in grace and reaching out with love.
Our Heritage
Charles New Methodist Church (CNMC) was started in 1967 and holds a prestigious place as the first indigenous Methodist Church in Nairobi. We are named in honor of Charles New, one of the pioneering United Methodist Free Churches (UMFC) missionaries who arrived in Kenya in 1863.
Our journey began at PCEA Martyrs’ Church, Bahati, where Methodist members gathering from Meru and Mombasa were granted a place of worship. In 1966, through the fellowship of Rev. Kendle and the Nairobi Chapel, we secured our current plot in Jericho.
Construction began in 1967 with a grant from the Methodist Mission Society in London. In April 1968, our original sanctuary was dedicated, and the adjacent road was named Charles New Road in honor of this milestone. Today, we stand as a launching pad for growth across the Nairobi Synod.
